Japanese Uluru Sunrise and Kata Tjuta Tour

Travel to the sunrise viewing area with Japanese-speaking guide and watch the first sunlight of the day spread across the desert plain. Enjoy 'Mala Walk' and visit the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre, or if the climb is open on that day there is an opportunity to climb to the summit. Participate in a guided Kuniya Walk to the Mutitjulu Waterhole. Commence the drive around the base of Uluru.

Travel to the sunrise viewing area, Talinguru Nyakunytjaku, at the eastern end of Uluru. Watch the first sunlight of the day spread across the desert plain. Enjoy a warming cup of tea or coffee as the morning sun slowly changes the colour of Uluru. Listen to the detailed briefing and warnings about the climb by the Japanese-speaking Guide. Then enjoy 'Mala Walk' (approx. 60 mins) and visit the Uluru - Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre, where they can find the informative displays and purchase arts and crafts made by local Aboriginal people. (non-guided, approx. 45 mins return). Alternatively, if the climb is open on that day, there is an opportunity to climb to the summit to be rewarded with spectacular views (approx. 2 hrs return), instead of Mala Walk & Cultural Centre. Participate in a guided Kuniya Walk to the Mutitjulu Waterhole (approx. 45 mins). On return from the base / climb tour enjoy a refreshing drink of barley tea and a cool lemon scented refresher towel. Commence the drive around the base of Uluru learning more about the huge monolith as the Japanese-speaking Guide points out the various sensitive sites and surrounding areas.

Please note: Uluru Climb is subject to the climb gate being open. It may be closed due to strong winds, rain or cultural reasons. Anangu people ask you not to climb Uluru as it is sacred in their culture.

Travel to Uluru (Ayers Rock) sunrise viewing area, Talinguru Nyakunytjaku, at the eastern end of Uluru. Watch the first sunlight of the day spread across the desert plain. Enjoy a warming cup of tea or coffee as the morning sun slowly changes the colour of Uluru. Participate in a guided Kuniya Walk to the Mutitjulu Waterhole (approx. 45 mins). Then travel to Kata Tjuta (the Olgas). Commence the 1 hour walk at Walpa Gorge at the base of Kata Tjuta (2.6km return). Along the way, your guide will point out and explain flora and fauna unique to this semi-arid environment. On your return to the coach enjoy a refreshing drink of barley tea (mugi-cha) and a cool refresher towel. Return to Ayers Rock Resort.

Note: Emu Walk Apartments guests join at Desert Gardens, Lost Camel Hotel guests join at Sails in the Desert for hotel pickup.

What to Bring

Fitness Requirements

  • Uluru Climb Option (till 25 Oct 2019): Uluru Climb can be very dangerous. It is your responsibility to refrain from climbing if you are unfit or have any such health conditions as high/low blood pressure, pregnancy, heart/breathing problems.
  • Uluru Base Walk Option (till 25 Oct 2019): Includes a lengthy 60 mins gentle walk on flat ground
  • Walpa Gorge Walk (from 26 Oct 2019): Uneven surfaces to complete walk (1 hour walk at Walpa Gorge at the base of Kata Tjuta, approx. 2.6km return)

Flight Information

  • If you depart on QF1940 (for ASP), JQ668 (for BNE), QF754 (DRW) or JQ665 (for MEL), you will not be able to join this tour on the same day. Alternatively you may join 'Uluru Sunrise & Field of Light' tour, subject to availability.
  • If you depart on VA1628 (for SYD) after Y35 tour, you need to book Japanese passes (JY36 - Morning Uluru Connection or JY29 - Rock Connection) in order to meet your flight departure.
