After you check in, you can head out and explore Christchurch. This evening, meet your fellow passengers and your Travel Director at a welcome reception at your hotel.

Hotel: Distinction Christchurch Hotel

This morning, partake in our Sustainable Tourism Commitment by planting a native tree in the Port Hills of Christchurch, an area recovering from wildfire. Next, travel over the patchwork Canterbury Plains to visit Morelea property for a Be My Guest afternoon tea and learn about farm life. Later, view the little stone-hewn Church of the Good Shepherd, and its bronze statue of a collie dog. Your day finishes in the heart of the Mackenzie Country in Twizel. Tonight, enjoy dinner at your hotel.

Hotel: MacKenzie Country Hotel

Included Meals: Breakfast, Be My Guest, Dinner with wine

Your day starts with a journey along the Waitaki River, and a photo stop at the Waitaki Hydro Power Scheme and Benmore Dam. You will then travel through to Oamaru, with its stately tree-lined streets and famous white limestone buildings. This afternoon you will reach the country’s southernmost city, Dunedin. With the rest of your free afternoon you may wish to see more of the region with an Included Choice option. Take a Wildlife Cruise out to Otago Peninsula, visit the Speights Brewery – a New Zealand institution or ride the historic Taieri Gorge Railway. Tonight, enjoy dinner at your hotel.

Hotel: Scenic Hotel Southern Cross

Included Meals: Breakfast, Dinner with wine

This morning is free in Dunedin. You may want to journey out to the gorgeous Larnach Castle – New Zealand’s only castle. Or you may just wish to roam around the beautiful grounds of New Zealand’s first university, Otago University. Dunedin, also known as the Edinburgh of the South, has strong connections to its northern hemisphere sister city, even down to sharing many of the same street names – so take a wander down George Street, noting Dunedin’s Scottish ancestry. This afternoon, you will travel through lush sheep-farming land. As your journey continues, the rolling, grassy hills turn back into forested, rugged mountains, and you meander your way up into Fiordland National Park to the South Island’s biggest lake and the town of Te Anau. This evening you have the opportunity to head across the lake to tour the Glow Worm Caves (optional experience – at own expense). Tonight, enjoy dinner at your hotel.

Hotel: Distinction Te Anau Hotel and Villas

Included Meals: Breakfast, Dinner with wine

Have your camera battery charged: today will be spectacular! You will take the scenic journey through the rainforests, beech forests and meadows of Fiordland National Park and out to Milford Sound. You will stop at Mirror Lakes, with stunning mountain scenery perfectly reflected in the waters, through rough-hewn Homer Tunnel, to be presented with one of the world’s most dramatic alpine drives, down through the Cleddau Valley and its Chasm. Then it’s on to cruise Milford Sound, taking in Bowen and Stirling Falls as these plummet from glacial hanging valleys sharply into the sea, and the sheer Mitre Peak, rising from the fiord. You will then travel on to beautiful Queenstown. An orientation tour skirting around Lake Wakatipu takes you into the city.

Hotel: Millennium Hotel, Queenstown, 2 nights

Included Meals: Breakfast

Today, choose one from a range of Included Choice sightseeing experiences: ride the Shotover Jet, take a gondola to Bob’s Peak and visit our native birds at Queenstown’s Kiwi Birdlife Park, or perhaps take a minibus tour through spectacular Skippers Canyon. After a day of activity, enjoy a peaceful evening cruise across Lake Wakatipu aboard TSS Earnslaw to Walter Peak High Country Farm for a gourmet BBQ Highlight Dinner at the Colonel’s Homestead, then enjoy an entertaining after-dinner farm show. On the cruise back to Queenstown, join a sing-a-long or a dance.

Included Meals: Breakfast, Highlight dinner

This morning you will begin the passage through Central Otago and out to Westland, stopping along the way to visit the faithfully restored gold mining settlement of Arrowtown. From here you will travel to Cromwell, alongside the sparkling waters of Lake Dunstan, to taste delicious stonefruit at a local orchard. It is a day of gorgeous lakes, as you travel further into Central Otago to view the vivid blue Lake Hawea, followed by charming Lake Wanaka. You will travel over Haast Pass, changing from alpine scenery to the rainforest marvels of the wild West Coast. View the sheer drop of Thunder Creek Falls and grand Mt Hooker, flanked on three sides by extensive glaciers. Our final destination today is the extraordinary Franz Josef Glacier. You may want to get up close to the icy glaciers on an optional helicopter flight. (weather permitting). Tonight, enjoy dinner at your hotel.

Hotel: Scenic Hotel Franz Josef Glacier (Douglas Wing)
