Perfect for the independent traveler intent on discovering every hidden corner of the land down under. Visit Melbourne, Kangaroo Island for spectacular scenery, the Red Centre to be immersed in ancient Indigenous culture, the Top End for incredible wildlife and the East Coast for the wonders that are the Great Barrier Reef and the harbour city, Sydney.

Morning of Day 19 in Sydney

As a free independent traveller on an Independent Holiday, you won’t be escorted by a Travel Director for the duration of your trip, rather you’ll meet different Driver Guides and like-minded travellers each day as you explore different destinations. We’ve taken care of all of your arrangements such as hotel reservations and airport transfers so you don’t have to worry about the nitty gritty,  and we’re only ever a phone call away if you have any questions throughout your holiday.

 

On arrival the rest of the day is free for you to explore.

Hotel: Crowne Plaza Hotel Melbourne, 2 nights.

Experience the Great Ocean Road and see the Twelve Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge and learn the history of over 50 ship wrecks. Continue beyond Port Campbell to the remnants of London Bridge.

Discover the charm of Melbourne on a sightseeing tour. This afternoon fly to Adelaide.

Drive to Cape Jervis for the ferry to Kangaroo Island. First stop is Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery and Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park. Then see a colony of sea lions with a local guide. See the Birds of Prey show at Raptor Domain wildlife refuge.

Hotel: Aurora Ozone Hotel, Kangaroo Island.

Visit Clifford’s Honey Farm. At Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary see koalas, echidnas, bats and possums. In Flinders Chase National Park marvel at the Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch and a colony of New Zealand fur seals. Return to Adelaide late evening.

This morning fly to Alice Springs. Tour the sights including the historic Telegraph Station and the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Stop at the Alice Springs Reptile Centre. Enjoy panoramic views of Alice Springs from Anzac Hill.

Travel through the West MacDonnell Ranges to Angkerle (Standley Chasm). See the amazing geology at Ellery Creek Big Hole. Explore the Ochre Pits and learn about its importance to the Aboriginal people. Visit Ormiston Gorge, then enjoy a glass of wine and Ploughman’s lunch at Glen Helen Homestead Lodge with time to visit Glen Helen Gorge. Later, visit incredible Simpsons Gap and waterhole.

Journey through the MacDonnell Ranges to Ayers Rock Resort. This afternoon travel the base of Uluru. Learn about native flora, fauna and the culture of the traditional owners, the Anangu. Then walk to Mutitjulu Waterhole to view ancient Aboriginal rock art. Later visit Uluru – Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre. Travel to the Uluru sunset viewing area and enjoy sparkling wine as the sun sets over the ‘rock’. Continue to our exclusive venue for an Aussie barbecue dinner. There is time for stargazing (weather permitting).

Hotel: Sails in the Desert Hotel, Ayers Rock Resort, 2 nights.

Drive through sandhill country into Watarrka National Park. Then you’re off on a 3.7 mile rim highlight exploration of Kings Canyon. An easier walk along the boulder-strewn canyon creek bed is also available.

Travel to the sunrise viewing area at Uluru and watch the first rays of sunlight creep across the desert plains. Afterwards, you’ll fly to Darwin, where the rest of your day is a leisure.

Travel on Stuart Highway into Kakadu National Park for a cruise on the serene Yellow Water Billabong. This afternoon you’ll stop at Nourlangie to see Aboriginal rock art.

  Travel to Ubirr and see Aboriginal rock art. Later, visit the Bowali Visitor Centre. Then join the Guluyambi Cruise along the East Alligator River to spot saltwater crocodiles.

Transfer to Darwin Airport for your flight to Cairns.

Board a catamaran and cruise out to the Great Barrier Reef. See a myriad of coral and tropical fish from an underwater observatory and semi-submersible craft. There’s the opportunity to go snorkeling (equipment provided). Enjoy a tropical buffet lunch before returning to Cairns.

  Visit Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park, where the Dreamtime is brought to life in a rainforest setting. Travel on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway above the rainforest to the village of Kuranda, with time to stroll the markets. Board the Kuranda Scenic Railway for a journey to Freshwater Station.

Transfer to Cairns Airport for your flight to Sydney. This evening is free for you to relax or explore.

Cross the Sydney Harbour Bridge to Milsons Point for fabulous views. Visit Manly surf beach and return to the city for a Sydney Harbour dinner. Later, see the Sydney Opera House, Royal Botanic Gardens, Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair and Kings Cross. Then visit famous Bondi Beach.

  • Kakadu: Includes a 10-15 minute walk on uneven ground with a gradual climb to the viewing point
