Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Uluṟu (Ayers Rock) – Uluṟu Base Tour, Sunset & Barbecue Dinner

On arrival at Ayers Rock Airport you’ll be transferred to the resort (flights to arrive prior to 1.30pm). This afternoon travel around the base of Uluru in comfort as your Driver Guide provides commentary about the sacred sites and features to be found at Uluru. Continue by coach to the Kuniya Walk where your Driver Guide will escort you to the beautiful Mutitjulu Waterhole. View Aboriginal rock paintings and learn about the area as your Driver Guide points out some native flora and explains the Aboriginal and European history of Uluru. Later visit the Uluru – Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre, where you can view Aboriginal arts and crafts.

Late afternoon travel to the Uluru sunset viewing area. Witness the striking colour changes of Uluru at sunset while enjoying sparkling wine. After sunset, continue to our exclusive barbecue area. You’ll be served a variety of Australian meats and salads and a tasty dessert with wine, beer or soft drink. After dinner, your guide will conduct a tour of the night sky, describing and pointing out some of the visible constellations (weather permitting).

Hotel: Outback Pioneer Hotel (Budget), Desert Gardens Hotel (Standard) or Sails in the Desert Hotel (Superior), Ayers Rock Resort, 2 nights.

Included Meals: Dinner

Day 2: Uluṟu Sunrise – Kata Tjuṯa (the Olgas) Sunset

Rise early to travel to the Uluru sunrise viewing area. Watch the first rays of the sun set Uluru and the Red Centre alight while enjoying a warming cup of tea or coffee. Then travel to the mystical 36 domes of Kata Tjuta (the Olgas). On the way enjoy panoramic views of the southern side of Kata Tjuta before arriving at the base of Walpa Gorge. Spend some time exploring the gorge and the unusual conglomerate rock formations.

This afternoon return to Kata Tjuta. Marvel at the unique flora and admire the view of the central valley of the domes of Kata Tjuta while you take in a magnificent outback sunset with nibbles and sparkling wine.

Day 3: Uluṟu (Ayers Rock) – Kings Canyon

Spend the morning at leisure. In the early afternoon, travel by luxury coach through spectacular desert scenery on your way to Kings Canyon Resort. Pass through Curtin Springs Cattle Station before viewing Atila (Mt. Conner) from your coach. Afterwards, depart for Alice Springs, stopping at Kings Creek Station to purchase lunch (own expense) and take some time to explore this working cattle station. This morning you’re headed for the beautiful West MacDonnell Ranges. First stop is Angkerle (Standley Chasm). Take a walk along the stony watercourse, where spring-fed pools attract a great variety of wildlife and birds. Next you’ll arrive at Ellery Creek Big Hole, a spectacular waterhole in the mighty Ellery Creek, which cuts through a gorge in the West MacDonnell Ranges. At the Ochre Pits you can see the natural ochres in the cliff face that have provided a source of materials for Indigenous people for thousands of years. Ormiston Gorge offers all the spectacular geology and landforms of the Tjoritja/ MacDonnell Ranges.

Enjoy a Ploughman’s lunch at Glen Helen Homestead Lodge with time to visit Glen Helen Gorge. The permanent waterhole here is home to many species of animals, including a variety of water birds and fish. Surrounded by towering cliffs, incredible Simpsons Gap is one of the best known destinations in the ranges and features a number of walking tracks. Walk through Simpsons Gap to the waterhole, keeping an eye out for the elusive black-footed rock wallabies hiding among the rocks. Enjoy the late afternoon sun reflecting on the MacDonnell Ranges as you return to Alice Springs.
