The panoramic landscapes of the West MacDonnell Ranges are extraordinary for their immensity and array of sunburnt oranges, maroons and purples. View spectacular outback scenery and take photos as we travel along through magnificent Outback Country, stopping at the many historic locations. As we depart town, we will stop at the historical Flynn’s Grave Memorial. Enjoy beautiful walks at both Simpsons Gap and Standley Chasm.

This morning you’re headed for the beautiful West MacDonnell Ranges. Along the way your Driver Guide will point out significant landmarks and share details of the region’s history and rich culture. In this scenery packed itinerary, you’ll visit the iconic sites of Simpsons Gap and Angkerle (Standley Chasm). 

 

  • West MacDonnell Ranges – they stretch over 600 kms east and west of Alice Springs and feature some of the most iconic sights in the Northern Territory
  • John Flynn’s Grave – just out of Alice Springs is the resting place for the ashes of the founder of the Royal Flying Doctor Service
  • Simpsons Gap – walk through the towering cliffs to the waterhole, keeping an eye out for black-footed rock wallabies
  • Angkerle (Standley Chasm) – walk along its stony watercourse, where you may see some bird and wildlife that inhabit the area
