Te Puia Springs
Te Puia is a place to experience and immerse yourself into New Zealand’s living Maori culture. Located just 5 minutes away from Central Rotorua Te Puia Springs is easily accessible. Te Puia Springs offers visitors a thermal wonderland of impressive geysers and boiling mud pools. The mud pools in particular are a popular destination for travellers, with many eager to see one of New Zealand’s most famous natural wonders, in Maori culture these mud pools are thought to carry healing and medicinal qualities. There are also a number of different walks through the colourful and diverse geothermal attraction, which range from between 30-75 minutes.
Te Puia is also home to the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute. For many years students have come from tribes across New Zealand to learn the traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation. Many classes are given on wood carving, Maori history, weaving, stone and bone carving as well as Waka building.
