Mitre Peak
The towering Mitre Peak stands at a near vertical 1,690 metres and is located in the world heritage area of the Fiordland National Park in the south west of New Zealand’s South Island. Positioned on the shore of Milford Sound, the peak offers onlookers a breath-taking vista and as result is one of the most photographed peaks in the country.
The peak is best known for its unique shape as it comprises of 5 separate peaks; however from a number of viewing areas the mountain appears to have just one single point. Surrounding Mitre peak is thick native bushland and the still and icy water of Milford Sound, which hosts a vast array of wild-life including New Zealand fur Seals, Fiordland crested penguins and dusky dolphins.
