Waitomo Cave itself is the primary glowworm cave of the Waitomo region. It is the main cavern and the busiest attraction. The tours of the Waitomo Glowworm Grotto are run by experienced tour guides who share the cultural and natural history of the cave, while you enjoy the beautiful limestone formations, memorable glowworm displays, and a relaxing boat ride through the grotto. Ruakuri Cave tours offer a longer underground experience with waterfalls and limestone formations. Another option to consider is the Aranui Cave. While it doesn’t have glowworms, it does feature some of the most incredible rock formations in the world, with brown, pink and white limestone stalactites covering the roof.
Yes, you have to be part of a tour to enter any of the Waitomo Caves. Tours depart for each of the nearby caves regularly. Waitomo Glowworm Cave is the most popular and features a boat tour, but there are also options for Ruakuri Cave and the Aranui Caves.
If you visit the glow worms of Waitomo as part of an AATKings guided tour, your booking will be arranged for you so there's no need to worry or stress over the dates and plans of your trip
