Red Centre Walkabout

4 Day Short Break | Uluru (Ayers Rock) Return | Travel Period: 1 Apr 2019 – 31 Mar 2020

From sunset to sunrise, witness the many shades of colour of which Uluru is famous. Travel along the Kuniya Piti, the Mala Walk and the Lungkata Walk hearing stories of the Anangu - the local Aboriginal people. Descend into the Garden of Eden while you explore Kings Canyon, and walk to the Valley of the Winds lookout at the domes of Kata Tjuta.

Day 4, Ayers Rock Resort
11:30am (Oct-Mar)
12:00pm (Apr-Sep)

On arrival at Ayers Rock Airport you’ll be transferred to the resort (flights to arrive prior to 3.00pm).

Travel to the Uluru sunset viewing area. Enjoy nibbles and sparkling wine as the sun sets over the western horizon and the evening sky brings out the many shades of colour for which Uluru (Ayers Rock) is famous.

Hotel: Outback Pioneer Hotel, Desert Gardens Hotel or Sails in the Desert Hotel, Ayers Rock Resort, 3 nights.

Travel to Kings Canyon and make the rocky climb to the rim of the canyon for marvellous views of Watarrka National Park. Or, you may wish to take an easier, shorter walk to explore the boulder-strewn canyon creek bed. Return to Ayers Rock Resort.

Included Meals: Breakfast

Rise early to join your guide on the 11km walk around the entire base of Uluru. Walk from Kuniya Piti, an Uluru sacred site and hear the Tjukurpa story of the Mala Men. Next up is the Mala Walk, which includes a visit into Kantju Gorge. Continue along the Lungkata Walk and hear the story of the cheeky Blue Tongue Lizard. Next stop is the Mutitjulu Waterhole where your guide will point out Aboriginal rock paintings. Return to Kuniya Piti to board your coach and receive a certificate of your achievement!

Travel to Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) and take in a magnificent outback sunset while enjoying sparkling wine.

Included Meals: Breakfast

Witness the sunrise over Kata Tjuta with Uluru in the distance. Join your Driver Guide on a 2-3 hour walk to the Valley of the Winds lookout.

Later you’ll be transferred to Ayers Rock Airport for your onward flight. Flights to depart after 12.45pm (Oct-Mar) and 1.45pm (Apr-Sep).

Fitness Requirements

  • Uluru Base Walk: Good level of fitness required. Lengthy 10.5km gentle walk on flat ground
  • Kings Canyon: Good level of fitness required for the 3 hour canyon Rim Walk
  • Low to moderate level of fitness required for the canyon Creek Bed Walk
  • Kata Tjuta: Moderate to good level of fitness required. Valley of the Winds can be a little challenging.
  • Shorter walks are available for those not wanting to walk to the second lookout
