Day 1: Longreach

A warm welcome into Longreach by your Outback Aussie Travel Director and transfer to your overnight accommodation.

Hotel: Jumbuck Motel, Longreach (Standard)

Day 2: Stonehenge, Jundah & Windorah

Explore the Cooper Creek catchment and follow the mighty Thomson River floodplain via Stonehenge and Jundah to Windorah with its majestic red sand dune landscapes. Continuing on to the ghost town of Betoota, see the JC Hotel Ruins, remains of the small town of Canterbury established in 1884. Pass by oil and gas fields to Deon’s Lookout with its amazing views of the Diamantina Shire before a late afternoon arrival in the frontier town of Birdsville - located at the end of the famous Birdsvile Track.

Day 3: Bedourie and Birdsville

Today visit the Burke and Wills Tree on the Diamantina River and the famous Birdsville Racetrack. Visit the Wirrari Visitor Information Centre and view local artists’ work in their extensive gallery. Take in the tranquility of the Birdsville Billabong with its prolific birdlife and explore the Inland Hospital ruins. Tonight will be a night to remember as we toast the glorious outback sunset from atop Big Red, a 40-metre-high sand dune marking the symbolic eastern edge of the Simpson Desert.

Day 4: Birdsville

Passing the famous Waddi Trees, witness where the Channel Country meets the desert as we travel north via Eyre Creek to Bedourie. See the Cacoory Ruins, a remnant of European settlement in 1870 then cross the vast Cuttaburra flood plains to the heart of the Lake Eyre Basin. Witness spectacular 360-degree views from the Vaughan Johnson Lookout before continuing on to Boulia. Visit the Min Min Encounter for a unique theatrical experience and tribute to the famed Min Min Light phenomenon. Call into the well-preserved Stonehouse Museum, one of the first homes build in Western Queensland.

Day 5: Boulia and Longreach

Travel a scenic drive east across open plains and majestic mesas to Winton stopping at Cawnpore Lookout to take in the stark flat-topped beauty of the Lilleyvale Hills. Along the way, see the original Min Min Hotel site where one of the first recorded sightings of the Min Min Light was said to have taken place. Call into the historic Middleton Hotel, originally a coach staging post, for morning tea and entertaining yarns. Meet the characters at Winton’s famous Tattersall Hotel and enjoy a pub lunch before returning to Longreach. Enjoy a 2 course table-service dinner as you watch the entertaining Smithy's Outback Dinner Show.

Day 6: Longreach

Explore more of Longreach’s attractions beginning with a visit to the Longreach School of Distance Education to witness a totally different way of schooling in a classroom more than twice the size of Victoria! Next we’ll wander the Qantas Founders Museum and step inside the 747 and 707 jets on a guided interpretive tour. Late afternoon, experience the warm hospitality of local graziers on our Camden Park Station Sunset Tour including a dinner at the homestead.

Day 7: Longreach

Be prepared to be impressed, with the changing landscapes as we travel from Longreach to Winton. We visit the Australian Age of Dinosaurs perched on a magnificent mesa overlooking the plains where dinosaurs once roamed! Onsite, we're treated to a top-class interpretive tour of the laboratory and collection room by Dinosaur enthusiasts - a truly enlightening experience. Heading into historic Winton we take a short town tour including a visit to the musical fence. Enjoy a relaxing evening at your accommodation with dinner.

Day 8: Longreach

A morning Strathmore Station Smoko Tour for an insider's view into life on the land and to sample some delicious home cooking! See Dr Bruce Yeats Memorial Cottage then visit the Australian Stockman's Hall of fame to discover the inspiring stories of the men, women and children living in and pioneering Outback Queensland. Late afternoon, board the MV. Explorer for the Drover’s Sunset Cruise. Unwind with on-board nibbles and drinks, watching a magnificent outback sunset. Enjoy a 2 course table-service dinner under the stars as you watch the entertaining Smithy’s Outback Dinner and Show.

Day 9 - Farewell from Longreach

Your Outback Queensland adventure comes to an end after breakfast with a complimentary transfer to your homeward bound connections.
