Day 2, Alice Springs
7.00pm (Oct-Mar)
7.30pm (Apr-Sep)

As this Short Break departs at 7.00am, accommodation will need to be pre-booked for the previous night.

Travel from Alice Springs to Uluṟu (Ayers Rock) aboard a luxury coach. Take in the rugged desert landscapes of the region, passing through the beautiful MacDonnell Ranges.

While travelling through this remote country, your friendly Driver/Guide will provide an informative and entertaining commentary. Learn the natural and geological history of the region, as well as the unique Australian desert flora and fauna such as the Perentie monitor lizard, the thorny devil and the red kangaroo. Also hear about the traditional customs and beliefs of the Anangu, local Aboriginal people.

There is time for a stop at a local Roadhouse for a quick break then view flat-topped Atila (Mt Conner) in the distance before arriving at Ayers Rock Resort rested, relaxed and ready to explore the amazing World Heritage-listed Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park.

This afternoon spend some time at the Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa Cultural Centre where you’ll gain some fascinating cultural insights.

Later, join your Driver Guide for a tour around the base of Uluṟu (Ayers Rock), then continue to the Kuniya Walk and visit the sacred Mutitjulu Waterhole. View ancient rock art and learn about the Aboriginal and European history of the area.

In the late afternoon at the sunset viewing area, witness the striking colour changes of Uluṟu as you enjoy sparkling wine.

Hotel: Outback Pioneer Hotel, Desert Gardens Hotel or Sails in the Desert Hotel, Ayers Rock Resort.

Drive through deserted sandhill country towards Kings Canyon. Climb to the rim of the canyon for marvellous views of Watarrka National Park. Take the 3 hour walk around the canyon with your guide and learn about its geology. Time permitting, you may choose to descend into the green oasis of the 'Garden of Eden'. Or enjoy a more leisurely 1½ hour walk along the boulder-strewn creek bed of the canyon.

Later travel to Alice Springs, where your Short Break concludes.

Included Meals: Breakfast

As this Short Break concludes after 7.00pm, accommodation will need to be pre-booked for tonight. Have a think about extending your stay to explore the history and culture in and around Alice Springs.
