Day 3: Alice Springs – Uluru (Ayers Rock) Sunset & Barbecue

Depart Alice Springs through the rugged desert landscape, passing the beautiful MacDonnell Ranges. Conner) in the distance, before arriving at Ayers Rock Resort rested, relaxed and ready to explore the amazing World Heritage listed Uluru – Kata Tjuta National Park.

This afternoon join your guide for a drive around the base of Uluru then travel to the Mutitjulu Waterhole. Here view Aboriginal rock art and learn about the area as your Driver Guide points out native flora and fauna and explains the history of Uluru. After a visit to the cultural centre you’ll head to the Uluru sunset viewing area. Witness the striking colour changes of Uluru, while enjoying sparkling wine and nibbles. Travel to our exclusive venue to enjoy our delicious award-winning barbecue dinner and stargazing (weather permitting). Enjoy a warming cup of tea or coffee as the morning sun slowly changes the colour of Uluru. Travel to the mystical domes of Kata Tjuta (the Olgas). The walking trail through Walpa Gorge follows the natural creek between two of the tallest domes of Kata Tjuta. In the early afternoon travel through spectacular desert scenery on your way to Kings Canyon Resort. Pass through Curtin Springs Cattle Station before viewing Atila (Mt. Conner) from the coach. After turning off the Lasseter Highway and on to the Luritja Road your Driver Guide will provide informative commentary about the history of the surrounding cattle area.

Day 6: Farewell from Alice Springs

Your short break concludes this morning. You'll be transferred to Alice Springs Airport for your onward flight (flights anytime).

Note:

  • Kings Canyon on day 5 — during the hotter months of the year where temperatures can reach and exceed 36° C or 97° F, the Watarrka National Park Rangers strongly advise that visitors do not take part in the Kings Canyon Rim Climb.  In this drier desert climate heat exhaustion, over these hotter months, is a very high possibility and a danger in such remote regions.  To ensure the safety and enjoyment of our clients we offer a guided walk along the Kings Canyon creek-bed as an alternative.
