Adelaide is known as the "City of Churches", as many of its early inhabitants were religious refugees from Germany. Their influence can still be seen in the food and music.
Settled in 1839 by Lutherans fleeing religious persecution in Prussia, Hahndorf was named after the ship’s captain. His name was Hahn, while 'dorf' is German for village.
Adelaide is noted for its well-planned city streets. The city is laid out in a grid pattern, making it very easy for visitors to find their way around.
Hahndorf is Australia’s oldest surviving German settlement.
Adelaide is home to the largest vintage car rally in the Southern Hemisphere (Bay to Birdwood).
