Cathedral Square
Cathedral Square is located in the centre of Christchurch and is home to the city’s Anglican Christchurch Cathedral. The Cathedral features gothic styling and was built between 1864 and 1904. Cathedral Square hosts a number of events such as arts and crafts markets, performances and as a result is often referred to as the cultural heart of the city.
Unfortunately in the 2011 earthquake that devastated the city of Christchurch the Cathedral’s 63m-high spire was completely destroyed, with following earthquakes also destroying the Cathedral’s famous stained glass rose window. Cathedral Square has reopened to the public.
