AAT Kings and Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors renew partnership for another two years

AAT Kings & Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors

3 May, Sydney 2016: On the back of Wild Koala Day today (3 May), AAT Kings is thrilled to announce that it will continue to provide support to Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors having recently negotiated another two year partnership.

Since April 2014, AAT Kings and the TreadRight Foundation has provided funding to Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors with a particular focus on helping the treatment and rehabilitation of the koala patients at the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital with financial contributions to now continue until 2018.

Anthony Hayes, Managing Director of AAT Kings, commented “We are really passionate about protecting Australia’s iconic wildlife and there is no better place to see this in action than at Australia Zoo which is why we are thrilled to announce a renegotiation and extension of this relationship for a further two years. The Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital is one of the country’s largest and busiest wildlife facilities and the dedicated team of vets, nurses and volunteers do an amazing job to rehabilitate sick, injured and orphaned animals back to health and into the wild. Guests of AAT Kings really enjoy seeing our much loved marsupials in their natural habitat and, by supporting Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors, we are helping to ensure that these memorable encounters will continue long into the future.”

Founder of Wildlife Warriors, Terri Irwin is thrilled about the partnership and what it means for the future of our wildlife. “We are so thankful to the team at AAT Kings for their generous and ongoing support of Wildlife Warriors. This partnership will help us continue to fund the lifesaving work at the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital, providing care and treatment for our native Australian wildlife to get them back out into the wild where they belong as soon as possible. Our work would not be possible without sponsors like AAT Kings,” she said.

To celebrate this ongoing partnership, AAT Kings recently ran a Wildlife Warriors Photo Competition asking entrants to send in snaps of themselves with their favourite Australian or New Zealand wildlife companion. The two lucky winners were then whisked away on a two night Wildlife Warriors Getaway to Australia Zoo which included an exclusive behind-the-scenes visit to the Wildlife Hospital and a VIP tour. The group were given an exclusive opportunity to observe the hospital’s vets and volunteers in action and see firsthand how dedicated they are to the cause. They even got to meet one of the hospital’s patients, Brash the koala, who had fallen victim to an unfortunate road accident. After continuous attendance by the hospital’s vets, Brash will soon be released back into the wild.

Roy Billing Entices Baby Boomers to #saysorrylater in Exclusive helloworld and AAT Kings NZ Adventure

Roy Billing in New Zealand for Helloworld and AAT Kings exclusive Silver Fox and Foxette holiday

Thursday 9th July 2015: Helloworld announces its exclusive Silver Fox & Foxette’s 10 Day New Zealand guided holiday with AAT Kings that will take travellers on a bespoke itinerary specifically designed for baby boomers. Respected and award-winning actor, Roy Billing, who this year received an Order of Australia medal for his contribution to the performing arts, stars in the social media video #saysorrylater that showcases the new adventure holiday.

Roy epitomises the carpe diem attitude of the baby boomer generation, and as a native Kiwi, is the perfect spokesperson to share his existing knowledge of his homeland as only a local can. Roy also explores some other spectacular destinations, such as Queenstown, for the first time.

There has never been a better time to visit New Zealand #saysorrylater
Baby boomers turned social convention on its head when they pioneered rock ‘n’ roll, free love and flower power – so why should retirement be any different? It’s this positive can-do attitude and desire to stay active that has inspired helloworld to partner with AAT Kings to create an exclusive New Zealand adventure specifically tailored to the needs of this post-war generation.

Kim Portrate, Chief Marketing Officer of helloworld explains: “We understand that the expectations of the baby boomer generation are totally different to all that have preceded them and we are responding by creating exclusive travel experiences that satisfy their desire for a healthy, active lifestyle. The exclusive itinerary created with our partner AAT Kings showcases the natural beauty of New Zealand, whilst combining diverse experiences, culinary delights, social interaction and as much or as little adventure as our baby boomer customers want.”

“Each year New Zealand features in helloworld’s top ten places for our customers to visit, so developing the hashtag #saysorrylater demonstrates our commitment to giving our baby boomer customers the best, most interesting value for money holiday in the market and encouraging them to travel now and say sorry to friends and family later.”

Anthony Hayes, Managing Director, AAT Kings adds: “By creating The Silver Fox & Foxette’s New Zealand guided holiday we’re not just aiming to introduce our guests to the incredible scenery and one-of-a kind experiences that New Zealand has to offer – that’s a given. We’re bringing like-minded people together and creating a fun, care-free atmosphere that will be filled with unforgettable experiences over a few laughs. Whether our guests join us with existing friends or are looking to make new friends, this trip offers plenty of opportunities to get involved, get to know one another, and to take the time to enjoy the best things in life which are often the most simple – good food, good wine and good company.”

Explore New Zealand from Auckland to Arrowtown
This ten day itinerary will kick-off in Auckland for two nights and after exploring the City of Sails, the group will move on to Rotorua, where travellers experience a traditional Maori hangi feast followed by a campfire experience. Born and raised in Auckland, Roy Billing offers some great advice on one hotspot not to be missed in his hometown.

“Auckland really has so much to offer and exploring the city by foot will satisfy any curious traveller. But when I think of home the first place I want to go is the micro-climate of Waiheke Island a 30 min hydrofoil trip from the city. It’s a pristine haven of incredible beaches and rolling hills offering fresh local produce. A must try are the bluff oysters when in season, local fish like whitebait and Hapuku, fresh olives, aged New Zealand beef and what better way to wash it down than with a glass of sauvignon blanc from one of the islands high quality vineyards. Just heaven on middle-earth!”

The group then leaves the North Island behind for the spectacular scenery of the Southern Alps starting in Christchurch. No trip to New Zealand would be complete without a sheep show and this tour offers the award winning theatre Agrodome Sheep Show variety! The following day travellers
take-in the landscape on the way to Franz Josef Glacier for the night before heading into adventure wonderland itself – Queenstown.

Roy Billing now in his sixties learned first hand how much fun you can have exploring Queenstown. “I am not sure what I loved more, the Shotover River jet boats or flying up to remote peaks in a helicopter to sip wine and take in the view! It’s incredible. What a picture perfect place Queenstown is – the village is nestled around the lake and then framed by towering mountains. The colours of the landscape from the deep green dense tones to the light gold and lush lime greens are just spectacular! As is the food and those wonderful Otago pinot noirs. Try Two Paddocks pinot from my mate, and acting colleague, Sam Neil’s vineyard.”

From Queenstown the tour is just hours away from the famous Milford Sound which you have a whole day to explore as well as Arrowtown where you spend the day stepping back in time in the quaint town nestled under the towering mountain ranges. From the artisan bakery to an arts lesson, this historic treasure on the banks of the Arrow River will not disappoint. The final day, travelling back to Christchurch, you take in the beauty of Mt Cook, Lake Pukaki & Tekapo, and have lunch at the home of a local family to take in the real country New Zealand experience.

Prices for the exclusive Silver Fox & Foxettes in NZ tour start at $3795 per person twin share* ($4940 single) with the first tour departing on 13 September 2015. For further information and to book, visit your local helloworld agent, phone 13 14 15 or visit www.helloworld.com.au/instore/deal/silverfox for the complete itinerary.

Double the decks, double the fun! AAT Kings launches Australian first with introduction of double-decker see-through roof coach

Innovative option for Sydney Sightseeing revealed

Double Decker exploring Sydney sights with Opera House views

Wednesday 29 April, 2014: Australia’s favourite guided holiday company, AAT Kings (www.aatkings.com), is set to revolutionise Sydney sightseeing today unveiling Australia’s first double-decker, see-through roof coach to its Sydney Day Tours program.

With traditional open-topped sightseeing buses restricted from travelling across the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Transport’s public double-decker buses featuring regular enclosed roofs, the city’s visitors have long been inhibited from enjoying Sydney’s most significant sights on and beyond the bridge to full advantage. Until now, that is.

Proving that double the decks equals double the fun, AAT Kings’ innovative double-decker with see-through roof coach will provide visitors to the harbour-side city (or locals seeking a unique perspective) with unrivalled views of Sydney’s iconic sights, the opportunity to walk across the Harbour Bridge, enjoy photo opportunities at Milson’s Point, see the iconic Sydney Opera House, visit the historic Rocks district and more.

Anthony Hayes, Managing Director, AAT Kings said: “At AAT Kings we are always looking for ways to break new ground and create even better travel experiences. We’re particularly excited about the launch of the double-decker with see-through roof which we believe will revolutionise Sydney sightseeing and bring a smile to our guests. By getting on board, visitors will experience Sydney from entirely new vantage points including the 180 degree views provided within the double decker and seeing the city skyline from destinations that previous sightseeing options didn’t access.”

AAT Kings’ double decker with see through roof is the first vehicle of its kind in Australia to have the roof removed and fitted with full view Perspex roof. It is equipped with free WiFi capabilities, enabling those on board to snap and share photos of the incredible views immediately. It is available to experience on AAT Kings’ Sydney Sightseeing half-day tour. This is priced from $20 per person, departing daily at 8:30am, 12 noon and 3:30pm.

Wednesday 20 August, 2014: AAT Kings (www.aatkings.com) Australia’s favourite guided holiday company, has taken a strategic shareholding in Queensland’s iconic Down Under Tours (www.downundertours.com), with the two major tour companies pledging to grow the tourism market in Cairns and the Tropical North in the years ahead. The new commercial partnership ensures Down Under Tours will remain an independent company, with founders James and Gordon Dixon maintaining management control in Cairns.

“This is a very exciting moment for AAT Kings,” said Anthony Hayes, Managing Director of AAT Kings. “Our new partnership with Down Under Tours provides the missing piece of the Australian puzzle for us. We will now be in a position to provide the complete package to our customers and our industry partners around the world, with Down Under Tours’ strength and expertise in Tropical North Queensland adding to the depth of experiences and destinations AAT Kings already offers throughout the rest of Australia and New Zealand.”

James Dixon, Director of Down Under Tours, said: “Gordon and Helen, Jann and I are delighted to be entering into this new partnership with AAT Kings, and we are even more delighted to confirm that Down Under Tours remains an independent, Cairns based company. The potential benefits of our new partnership are obvious, but maintaining our local expertise and management were paramount to the agreement going ahead.”

AAT Kings and Down Under Tours will work to better coordinate schedules, tour packages and strategy, but both companies stressed the new partnership was guaranteed to be “business as usual” for all partners.

Discussions will be held with key industry partners in the coming weeks to outline the new partnership.

AAT Kings bowls the nation over with the world’s first mobile indoor lawn bowls green

The #SmileKings hit the road warming up for a Guinness World Record www.youtube.com/watch?v=eblhj-zRF9A

World's First Mobile Lawn Bowl logo

15 July, 2014: Australia’s favourite guided holiday company, AAT Kings (www.aatkings.com), is helping put a smile back on people’s faces this winter with the creation of the world’s first mobile indoor lawn bowls green. Building on from the company’s major relaunch last October, AAT Kings is teaming up with Bowls Australia, Grassman and Scania, and setting out around the country in a specially refitted coach before attempting a Guinness World Record for the “longest marathon playing indoor bowls”.

Having stripped the interior of one of its luxury vehicles, removing almost all seats and replacing it with a state-of-the-art lawn bowls green, the newly decked AAT Kings coach will roll into several regional towns and metropolitan cities during July and August, inviting the public to climb aboard and have a bowl.

Anthony Hayes, Managing Director, AAT Kings, said: “For almost 90 years, AAT Kings has been taking travellers on unique adventures around Australia, but this one is new even for us!

“We are absolutely focused on working with our trade partners at every opportunity. So while this is obviously all a bit of fun, it also allows us to team up with our key retail partners throughout Regional Australia and to show them how much we appreciate what they do for us. We want to engage with local communities via our regional partners, while giving people a better sense of what we’re all about. Ultimately, we want to make people smile. The creation of the world’s first mobile indoor lawn bowls green is a true reflection of the quirky, down-to-earth nature of AAT Kings, which we’re excited to be bringing to a town near you.”

Over a six week period, the AAT Kings coach will call into more than 60 towns with local community organisations and travel agency partners coming on board to help put on a great FREE event for potential guests, young and old. There’s plenty of fun to be had at each stop with some great holiday offers up for grabs including a $100 discount voucher given to every person who has a bowl. A full list of dates, times and locations can be found on www.aatkings.com/mobile-lawn-bowls. The mobile indoor lawn bowls green will then return to Sydney in late August where it’ll attempt a Guinness World Record.

AAT Kings and Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors announce lifesaving new conservation partnership

Terri Irwin joins forces with the Smile Kings to save the nation’s koalas. www.aatkings.com/koalas

Wildlife Warriors Koala at Australia Zoo

1 July, 2014: Australia’s favourite guided holiday company, AAT Kings (www.aatkings.com) and the TreadRight Foundation, have teamed up with Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors to support the koala rehabilitation project at Australia Zoo's Wildlife Hospital – the country’s largest and busiest wildlife facility. Coming on board as AAT Kings' newest conservation partner, Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors will receive a significant donation of $48,000 over two years, with the organisations uniting over a shared passion for caring for the nation's unique wildlife so that it can be protected for many years to come.

Terri Irwin said Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors are thrilled to welcome AAT Kings and the TreadRight Foundation as supporting partners over the next two years.

“We're so grateful to be receiving this donation which will directly support the treatment and rehabilitation of koalas, one of Australia’s most iconic and unique endangered species at the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital.”

“We're proud to welcome AAT Kings and the TreadRight Foundation as organisations that share our vision of sustainable tourism, environmental protection and wildlife conservation,” said Terri.

As one of Australia's beloved marsupials, koalas are among the most commonly treated patients at Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital, which cares for nearly 800 koalas each year at an average cost of $1500 per animal. AAT Kings substantial contribution will go towards the medical treatment and rehabilitation of koalas at the centre, as well as the building of eco-friendly constructions that will help protect those that are sick and orphaned.

Anthony Hayes, Managing Director, AAT Kings said: "Around the world koalas are seen as synonymous with Australia. As a result, AAT Kings is extremely excited to be partnering with Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors to do our bit to protect these beloved animals and keep them safe within their natural habitat."

"We're truly passionate about showcasing the very best of Australia to fellow Aussies and international visitors, however we feel that it’s equally as important to spend time educating and informing others about wildlife conservation. For this reason, we're also revealing some fun ways that our guests can give back and contribute to the treatment, housing and rehabilitation of koalas."

Helping put a smile on the faces of all those who travel with AAT Kings is the announcement of a company mascot - Sam the koala. This cuddly, stuffed animal will be available for guests to purchase during their tour with a percentage of each sale going towards Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital's koala rehabilitation project.

The world-class team of vets and nurses at Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital are kept extremely busy treating around 100 koalas at any one time during the peak season, with 75,000 members of the public touring the hospital each year. The single biggest reason for koalas being admitted to the hospital is from being hit by vehicles and attacked by dogs as a result of increasing urbanisation and the impact of the human footprint spreading into koalas' natural habitat.

This latest initiative by AAT Kings succeeds its other conservation partnerships which include working closely with Phillip Island Nature Parks in Victoria to protect the world's largest species of Little Penguins, and providing support for endangered Tasmanian devils through Tasmania Zoo's Exhibit Retrofit project.
