AAT Kings offers a range of Guided tours, Flexi trips and Day tours to Tasmania.
Located in the North of Tasmania is Launceston, Tasmania’s second largest city after Hobart. It is one of the oldest cities in Australia, dating back to 1806 which is why when you tour this city, observe the many historical Edwardian buildings that still stand today that co-exists with modern architecture.
Being one of the oldest cities means it’s also the first of many things, such as
1. The first to use anaesthetic in the Southern Hemisphere
2. The first Australian city to have underground sewers and
3. The first city to be lit by hydroelectricity
Interesting trivia that you will hear on your Tasmania coach tour.
Launceston is easy to explore and navigate on foot with summer days averaging 24 degrees to as low as 14 in winter. It is the gateway city to Tamar Valley and Cataract Gorge.

View mapIt’s not as well known as the Hunter Valley (New South Wales), Yarra Valley(Victoria) or Barossa Valley (South Australia) but Tamar Valley is Tasmania’s premier wine making region with 20 vineyards lining the Tamar River. On your visit to this region, observe the orchards, pastures, forests and lavender fields that make up the Tamar Valley. It is here that you’ll have an opportunity for some wine tasting at Rosevears Vineyard.
Just a short 15 minutes from Launceston and along the premier wine route, Rosevears was established in 1999 with production of wine commencing in 2000. It is an operating winery and part of the wine production team is Dr Andrew Pirie, regarded as a leading figure in the Tasmanian wine industry. When you enjoy your wine tasting, take note of the grape wine varieties as these are produced well in this region as the grapes are protected against frost by the river.
Don’t forget to purchase a bottle or two to enjoy back at your hotel!

View mapYou’ll be surprised to see such a natural wonder so close to Launceston but just two minutes away from the centre of the city centre is Cataract Gorge or “The Gorge” as the locals like to call it.
Discovered back in 1804, Cataract Gorge offers visitors serenity from everyday life with it’s abundance of ferns, exotic plants, around 70 species of them and for bird enthusiasts, 70 species can be found here too. Whilst on your Tassie tour, marvel this natural formation as you walk across the suspension bridge built back in 1840. You may also get to see Duck Reach Power Station (now an interpretation centre) that was commissioned in 1893 that was used to light up Launceston at the time.
