Meet a Tour Director

Hi, my name is Ruben Brown, and I am one of AAT Kings professional Tour Directors.

Many people think "wow, what a job!" and I have to agree - I've been conducting tours for nine years now, but it certainly doesn't seem like it. I guess the old adage of "time flies when you're having fun "seems appropriate! And nothing makes for a great day at work like people telling you at the end of the day that they've had a blast!!

I run tours throughout most parts of the country, so you never know where you might find me around Australia. I'm based in NSW and whenever I've got the opportunity I'll head off to do a bit of nature walking. You'd be surprised as to how many stunning hiking trails there are in New South Wales. I often find myself pointing out good walks to passengers who are interested in stretching their legs during free time.

I'm often asked "What's the best thing to see in Australia?" It's hard to narrow it down to just one so I'll give you my Top three list;

1: Uluru and the Olgas in the Northern Territory.
Apart from the geological and aboriginal significance of the area, just the sheer size of them leaves you breathless! Whilst walking round and through them is definitely one of the best ways to appreciate them, I'd also recommend a flight above as it completes the picture!

2: The Great Barrier Reef.
While there are some amazing reefs around the world, I think it's hard for any reef system to compete with our Great Barrier Reef. I may be biased but I just feel everyone has to experience it!

3: The Tasmanian Wilderness.
The west coast's inhospitable nature, unpredictable weather coupled with its stunning and picturesque scenery makes it a highlight for all those who experience it.

People also often ask me what to pack for an AAT Kings adventure. Besides the basics like comfortable shoes and some casual clothes, I recommend you always bring a water bottle, insect repellent and sunscreen as some of Australia's regions can be quite unforgiving if you forget the essentials!

Everyone should try and travel Australia, to see for themselves the amazing wonders in this unique country.
